We´re in Spain! We arrived in San Sebastian on April 28 & left there to go to Bilbao on May 1. Today is May 2 & we woke up to catch a train to Madrid at 9:15am. It turns out the train company we made seat reservations with is on strike. Currently we are sitting at the Bilbao train station waiting for a different train to Madrid that only leaves at 5:10pm. This has given us opportunity to reflect on our Spanish experience so far:
1) We have found the business hours to be quite unusual. We arrived in San Sebastian at 1:30pm and noticed the tourist info desk was closed from 1:30pm-4pm. Perfect! After buying an overpriced city map, we lugged our massive packs through the terrential downpour! While walking through the city to our hotel we realized 90% of the businesses were also closed during these hours. Siesta perhaps?
b) San Sebastian is located right along the ocean and therefore has many fine beaches. On the 29th we had really nice weather and decided to stroll to the beach to soak up some rayz. While trying to find a good spot to sit down we saw (as we were warned before we left) that tops were optional for both men and women. "Donovan, guard your eyes!"
4) We are used to eating supper between 5pm and 6pm. Restaurants in Spain only open at 8:30pm. By this time we are starving so we often go to a grocery store and eat in our hotel room. We prefer it that way.

You guys look great! Glad you are doing well! It's always wonderful to see your smiling faces. Donovan the architecture must be a thrill for you to see - an architects dream! Glad you found a good restaurant and really good food in Spain.

Wow... that sounds SO frustrating. But don't worry... as frustrating as some of these things may be, they'll only make your adventures that much more memorable :) Spain looks IN-credible, as do you guys! Keep having fun... and keep the updates coming. Its so fun to hear how things are going for you and to see the gorgeous places you're visiting!
The beach looks amazing!!You guys are definitely pros in packing all those clothes in your packs. You will have lots of good advice for others. haha - so glad you have eventually experienced the meditteranean way of life. italy should be several times more laid back than spain. i don't know whether it's the heat or the wine...
i did warn you not to place too much faith in timing when in europe! hope you're still having an awesome time - make sure you have paella while you're in spain!x
